Development of ab-initio approaches for the description of molecular strong field phenomena

Research abstract:

The aim of my work to investigate theoretically the interaction between strong IR pulses and big polyatomic molecules, particularly molecular photoionization and High Harmonic Generation (HHG).

This investigation first consists of solving the time independent (field free) Schrödinger equation for the molecule by using the DFT B-splines code of Trieste. Thereafter, the obtained eigenvalues (Kohn-Sham orbitals) are used as a basis for propagating the obtained wave-packet in the IR field. Afterwards, ionization and HHG observables are determined through the analysis of the final wave-packet at the end of the pulse.

One of my responsibilities is to parallelize parts of the B-splines DFT electronic structure code of Trieste. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the development of the wave-packet analysis code which will enable the extraction of the total and angular cross sections for ionization and HHG. In collaboration with the group of Alejandro Saenz in Berlin, we aim to set up a fully operational code for strong field phenomena which would be applicable to big molecular systems such as C60.
